Converting flat background to a layer

- [Deke] All right, now we're going to begin creating this layered composition. It's just five layers so it's not all that tough. However, by necessity, we will be visiting tools and commands that we'll revisit in future chapters. All right, so we're going to start with this flat photographic image right here. Now notice that I've given you a couple of guidelines. That'll help in the positioning of the shark's eye. And if you were to go to the window menu, and choose paths, then you'll see I'm also providing you with these vector based path outlines that we'll use to create the shark layer. However, if I switch back to the layers panel, by clicking on its tab, the one thing we don't have is any layers. We just have this flat background. And that's because the jpeg format, which you can see is at work up here in the title tab. While it permits guidelines, as well as path outlines, it does not permit layers. Which is…
