Create an authentic mezzotint
- [Narrator] Let's see how we can create a Mezzotint effect in Photoshop using a combination of filters, none of them actually the Mezzotint filter. This is the finished file, I'm going to now move to the starting state. Mezzotinting is an old printmaking process that allows you to reproduce an image as a series of, or thousands of, tiny dots. It is, by implication, monochrome, so we need to end up with a black and white, or toned, image. First of all, let me point out the Mezzotint filter. It's in the pixelate group, and we have these options, but, I'm not going to be using these. Instead, we will be using the Grain filter, which allows us to apply a stippled grain. But before we do that, we need to prepare our image. I will convert the image to a Smart Object and then I'm going to come to the Image menu and to Adjustments and to Shadows/Highlights. And I just want to bring up the shadows slightly, so I'm going to change the amount to 20 percent. Now, just to give it a bit more…
