Create effective solarizations
- [Instructor] In this movie, we're going to look at solarizing an image. Solarization is a traditional black and white photography technique where part of the image is positive and part is negative. There is a solarize filter in Photoshop, but that's not how I'm going to do it. But let's take a look at that filter. I'll switch to the starting image. First thing I want to do is convert the image to black and white and add more contrast. I'll use this preset. Not that one, this one. High Contrast Red. Then I'll come and convert my background layer to a smart object. The solarize filter is in the Stylize group. There are no options and no dialog box. If you want to vary the amount of solarization, you could come back to the black and white adjustment layer and adjust the sliders or use a different preset. But instead of doing it that way, I'm going to turn off the solarize filter and I'm going to add a curves adjustment layer. I'll come to the top right of my curve, which represents the…
