Create vintage photo effects

- [Narrator] If you're using Photoshop CC 2017 or later you'll have access to some very useful templates, which you can use to apply texture to your images. And here's the result that I got using one of those templates called vintage photo effects. Here's how I did it. Come to the file menu and choose new. And then come to photo and scroll down and vintage photo effects. The first time you choose it, it will be downloaded so there'll be a small delay, but once downloaded you can double click on it to open a new document based on this template. I'm just going to hold down my shift key and pan my image over to the left. So here we have the layers and at the top of the layer stack is this space saver for your photo. It's a smart object, so if I double click on that it brings me to a new file and it's in this new file that I come and place, my image and the one that I'm after, it's called vintage. And I'm going to scale that up. Actually the dimensions of the image are higher than that of the smart object place holder. It's just that they are at different aspect ratios. So I've scaled that up holding option and shift and pulling from one of the four corners. I can remove that layer just by dragging it to the trash. Press command S to save the smart object. And now when I return to my starting document we see my image in place. So there are a number of variables that we can change here. We can change the blending mode. And of course we can change the opacity. And we can also change the background color, which is just a layer of solid color fill. So let's say I want this on black. So just to deconstruct this, I'll hold down the optional alt key, we have our layer of solid color. Above this we have, a masking shape and to the masking shape we have both the texture and the photo clipped. So a very simple very effective way of adding texture to your image using a template called vintage photo effects.
