Creating bleached bypass effects with a Black & White adjustment layer
- Besides using the black-and-white adjustment as a true black-and-white effect, you can also blend it to create a bleached color effect. This bleached bypassed look is going to leave a washed-out image with some color, but shifts in the black-and-white point, as well as in the color and the contrast. Here's how it works. Let's take a look at the end state. You'll notice that we have a very washed-out image by design. Let's toggle this on and off. First, I used a pattern fill just to brighten up the image a bit. Then, I made a vibrance adjustment to pop the color, and then the black-and-white adjustment and a little more vibrance on top. What's left is a very bleak image with a hint of color. Here's how it works. Now, I've already added the pattern fill layer, but you can do that in the future by clicking here on the fill layer and just choose Pattern.
