Creating custom black-and-white effects with the On Image tool
- In this next section, we're going to explore creative editing a bit. And to make it a little easier, I've included both a before and after state so you have something to look at as you work. In this case, we're going to create a custom black and white. I did so here on this particular image, which was a long exposure. We did a little bit of light painting here while our model sat very still. The black and white adjustment brought out the details and the depth, then a color lookup table and a gradient map applied the creative duotone effect. Alright, let's try this out. In this case, we're going to modify the black and white adjustment layer. And I want you to see the differences. If we just add a saturation effect and strip the color all the way down, the black and white is really quite basic. And a lot of the dynamic range is lost creating a very flat image.
