Creating custom duotones with a gradient map

- A duotone effect is one that introduces color into a black and white image and the gradient map is quite useful for this. You can also mix the duotone effect with the color image to really get a great mood to an image, particularly if you're going for a vintage or a retro feel. In this case here, you see two images. I've got an original shot of some bottles that were left behind and abandoned in the Chernobyl blast zone. What I want to do is create the feeling of age and the slight sickness of a green tinge, so I want to bring that out a bit more. So to do this, we're going to use two effects, a curve just to really pop the dynamic range, and then the gradient map to bring out those colors and the mood that we want. Let's get this started. We'll begin with the curves adjustment and clicking auto did a good job, but I'm going to option click on auto and try some of the other options here such as enhanced brightness and…
