- Before I started shooting digitally one of my favorite alternate processes involved taking Polaroid images and transferring them to paper before the emulsion dried. So today were going to use a scan of some edges soften the image and add a bit of texture to achieve a similar look. This document has two layers, it's got the photograph of the salt flats as well as the edge file. With the edge file selected I'll tap the "l" key to select the lasso. And I have the polygonal lasso tool selected, and that's going to enable me to click once in each corner of the photograph here in order to select this area. Then I can just double click in order to close the selection or position my cursor over the staring point, the cursor gets the little zero, and I can click in order to close that. Then on the edge file if I just select the layer mask I'm going to get the opposite of what I want, so I'll hold down the option key on Mac…
