Creating spot color effects with a Black & White adjustment layer
- When creating a black and white image, you may find yourself wanting to have some of the colors come back. There are a few different ways to do this, and some people employ layer masks. However, I prefer a simpler approach that relies upon blending modes. This way I can easily tweak things and not have to update so much with manual brush strokes. In this case here, you see what we have is a black and white image of the streets of London, and the original image here was quite versatile and black and white. But the yellow is coming back. Then, by using a curve and a hue saturation adjustment layer, we are able to pop that yellow to bring it more to life. Well, how did this work? It's actually quite simple. Let's go to the starting point here, and you'll see the black and white adjustment. My suggestion is change its blending mode.
