- [Instructor] Most people think that layer styles are just for adding simple drop shadows, but they're really much more powerful than that. Let's take a look at the different effects that we can add to these icons to completely change their appearance. I'll start with the plane icon. And I just want to add a color overlay, so I'll use the Effects panel, and choose Color Overlay. Then we can click in the swatch area. And I've got my Only Web Colors showing. That's all right, I'll just pick a nice blue color in order to fill in that icon. Now, in order to add a little bit of depth, I'll go ahead and add an inner shadow, and I'll increase the opacity a little bit to make it a little bit more defined. And also add a little bit more to the size. So you might not be creating an icon exactly like this, but maybe you're creating a button and you need to create multiple states.
