Cropping and straightening

- Cropping and straightening is really not a difficult concept to understand, nor are the cropping tools that difficult to learn. But I put this straightening and cropping section here in this course because I feel like more than just about any other type of photography, landscape photography depends on images that are level. Yes, there are times when you can get away with skewing the horizon line, but those times are rare and you've got to really know what you're doing and you've got to have a shot where that skewing is motivated by something, where there's a reason for it. Otherwise, it's just a distraction. Otherwise the viewer looks at the scene and says, huh look, the horizon's not straight. Most of the time, a tilted horizon looks like a mistake. When we look at a landscape shot, we want that, I hate to use this pun, actually I'm kind of proud of it, proud of it now that I think of it, we want the grounding, we want our landscape shots to be level, for the horizon to be…
