Curving type and adding perspective

- [Instructor] All right, now I want to take our big display text and I want to warp it. That is to say, I want to bend it upward and I want to pitch the letters forward so that they appear in perspective. And we can do that using a function called warp text. And so there's a couple of ways to get to it. First of all, make sure that the star layer is selected here inside the layers panel. And then you can go up to the type menu and choose warp text, and that will bring up this dialogue box right here. Next what you want to do is set the style to anything you like, frankly. The icons pretty much tell the story. But I'm going to go with arc so that I can bend those letters upward, like so. Now, I don't want to bend it that far, so I'm going to reduce the bend value, like so. You can also apply a negative bend value in order to bend those letters downward. At which point I'll click OK, if only to show you that this is an editable effect. And so one way to edit that effect is to return to the type menu and choose warp text once again. Another way is to switch to the type tool, which you can get by pressing the T key, and then notice up here in the options bar we have this icon create warped text, and that allows you not only to create warped text, but to edit, it as well. At which point I'm going to change this bend value to 5%, like so. Next we have these distortion values. Notice if I increase the horizontal distortion, then the letters appear to come at me from the right. If I enter a negative value, they come at me over here on the left-hand side. I don't want either of those, so I'll set the horizontal distortion value to zero. If I want the letters to lean backward, then I can apply a positive vertical distortion value, or if I want them to lean forward, then I'd apply a negative value. And so in the end, I set the style to arc, the bend value to plus five, the horizontal value to zero, and the vertical value to negative 15 degrees, at which point I'll click OK in order to accept that effect. And I want to make it clear, throughout our various modifications here, this text remains editable. And so if I were to drag across a couple of characters using my type tool, I could change them to whatever characters I want to. And by the way, any warp settings that you apply apply to all characters in a text object. And so if I wanted to pitch the letters back just a little bit, then I'd click on that create warp text icon once again, and I'd take the vertical distortion value from negative 15 to negative 10%. And then as you can see, that affects all of the letters in kind. And now I'm going to go ahead and change this word back to the star, and then I'll press the Escape key in order to accept all of those changes. And that is how you arc your type as well as create a little bit of perspective using the warp text options here inside Photoshop.
