Different background ideas
- [Instructor] What are backgrounds and textures? In what situations are they best used? How do backgrounds and textures differ? How will your uses of them differ? These are great questions. When you start considering the kinds of backgrounds and textures that will work well with your photos, think about art that you've seen reproduced, perhaps in a museum, perhaps in a book, that might be on a background. This is a good starting place. So think that the goal of using a background or texture is really not photographic. It's about creating art beyond the photograph. Using a background often creates an intentionally different look. Often the best use of these techniques is to create a painterly or graphical effect. A case in point is this moody but impressionistic image of the hills of California in the fog, which is definitely not photographic in nature. Backgrounds and textures are inherently different.
