Directional lighting

- [Instructor] In this movie, we'll talk about the third method for lighting your underwater macro scenes, and that's directional lighting, an example of which we're seeing here. So in this case, the light is coming in from the left-hand side. And the idea behind directional lighting is that you place a single strobe at a right angle to the subject. And the advantage here is that you end up with some very strong texture, as we're seeing in the case of this scorpion fish on the right. And so in this case, we have a single light that's cast directly downward onto the subject, which accentuates the texture by creating intense shadows underneath bumps, details and protrusions. Also, we're creating a single, rich, black shadow under the subject itself. - [Instructor] So certain subjects really benefit from this kind of lighting.
