Dodging away shadows on the sand

- In this movie, we'll be taking three steps, and here, we'll be creating three new layers in order to improve the sand area of the photograph. First we'll look at how we can use the Dodge tool in order to get rid of some of the darker shadows that we have in this area. Next we'll explore how we can work with a technique which involves painting on a layer with a blending mode of Soft Light to brighten up the sand. Then, last but not least, we'll explore how we can even out the color in this area. All right, let's create our first new layer, which we're going to do by using a shortcut. Press shift + option + command + e on a Mac, shift + alt + control + e on Windows, and let's name this layer Dodge. Dodging is a technique which allows us to brighten areas of the image. We're going to use the Dodge tool by tapping the o key, or by clicking on the Dodge tool icon, which is located right here. Up top, we'll choose a really big brush.
