Duplicating Smart Objects

- [Instructor] We need to learn the difference between duplicating a smart object and creating a new smart object via copy, because there are times when you might want several instances of a smart object to be linked, and other times when you want them to behave independently from one another. So we can see on the Layers panel that this match is made up of several layers. In this case, they're shape layers but they could be type layers or photos, or really any type of layers. I'm going to select all of the layers by holding down the shift key and then selecting white circle, and then convert them to a smart object by right-clicking and choosing Convert to Smart Object. Now in order to make a smart object that is independent of this one, I'll choose Layer and then Smart Objects and then I'll create a new smart object via copy.
