Edge Detection: Radius and Smart Radius

- [Instructor] In this movie, we'll take a look at the real magic behind the select and mask workspace, which are the edge detection options, which include a radius value and a smart radius check box. Alright, just to conserve a little space here on the right-hand side of the screen, I'm gonna twirl closed global refinements. But notice, even though they're hidden, they still remain in effect. Alright, so I'll go ahead and twirl those guys closed, and I'll twirl open edge detection, which as I say, includes this radius value and smart radius check box. The job of the radius value is to create an area in which Photoshop can reevaluate the selection edges. And so for example, if I were to crank this value up, to say, something pretty high for now, such as 55 pixels, what I'm telling Photoshop to do is look at an area that's 55 pixels wide, around the former edges of the selection.
