Expanding or contracting a selection
- From time to time you might notice that the overall shape of your selection is pretty much perfect but it's just a little farther away from the edge or overlapping that edge so you just want to expand or contract the selection itself without altering the shape. Let's take a look at an example and how we can use the expand or contract command to fix that kind of situation. I'll create a selection of the sky in this case I'm just using the magic wand tool I've clicked in a couple of areas clicking initially and then holding the shift key for the add the selection option and clicking in an additional area and that looks to be a good selection. The shape certainly looks spot on but as I zoom in I find that that selection is a little bit too far away from the mountain I'd like to expand it just a little bit. So first I need to decide am I expanding the selection or contracting the selection? They're the same basic command just moving in different directions. Here I have the sky selected…
