Flattening

- [Instructor] Coloring or drawing starts with a process that's called flattening. Flattening means to select different areas of our drawing and to fill them with flat colors. These flat colors are arranged on separate layers that can later be used to easily work on specific elements of our coloring. So let's go ahead and the first thing that I want to do is to create the layer group to hold all the layers that I'm going to create. I have the drawing selected and I press and hold the Control key and on the Mac, that would be the Command key and I press on the new layer group icon. By holding the Control key or the command key on the Mac, I make sure that the new group is created below the drawing and not above it. I can rename the group. I call it Colors and I create a new layer inside this group. And this is the first layer that I want to fill with a flat color.
