Foregrounds and backdrops for scanner art
- Let's get into the foreground and background elements of a scan, because even though both of these things are totally optional when you're setting up a scan, when you do include them, this is where your scans can take on some artistic personality. So, it's really worth brainstorming and exploring some options here. And let's start with foregrounds. This is the stuff that usually sits right there on the glass, and foreground material can be clear or translucent, or it can be like a bunch of tiny things that you scatter around on the glass, something like grains of rice for instance. Foreground material, well it can be plastic, paper, fabric, mesh, metal, beads, string, glitter, or even something edible. And much more of course. So, just look around, be resourceful, and try out different approaches while you're aiming for foreground materials that interact with your subjects in interesting ways.
