How CMYK works

- [Instructor] In this movie, I'll take you on a brief tour of how CMYK works. And this is a layman's overview, by the way. Commercial printers know much, much more. But this'll at least give you a sense of what's going on. So, what we have here is inks that are being applied by the equivalent of lithographic plates. And so, we have one plate per each ink. And you may recall the inks are cyan, so this bright sort of greenish blue right here; magenta, which is a kind of hot pink; and then yellow, which, of course, is yellow; along with the key color, black. And the reason I'm calling it the key color is because the other plates are keyed, or precisely aligned, to the black plate. Now, ideally, all the inks are being applied to a white page. The whiter, the better. Because, that way, we're gonna get the best results. So, whereas with the screen, you start with a black screen, and then you add red, green, and blue light, in order to brighten that screen. When printing, you start with a…
