How do I add color to a black and white photo?

- If you want to create a black and white image with a hint of color, there's really two ways to go about it. And it depends if the image has color to start with or has already been converted to black and white. Let's look at both techniques quickly if you're working with an image that already has some color, it's pretty simple. Add the black and white adjustment layer here. And what we can do is easily start to blend in those different areas, which can be quite effective. But my suggestion here is change this. So if we select this and select a mode like lighten or darken, you'll see the change. For example, notice I could pull down the yellows and the other colors while leaving the reds behind. In this case we're getting a more black and white type image very easily, but the hint of color is left.
