- When you choose to create a black and white image, it's not as simple as just removing the color. If you do this approach, the image tends to go really flat and pretty boring. Instead, you want the colors in the photo to influence the black and white conversion. The easiest way to do this, is to come on over to the Adjustments layer section and choose a Black and White adjustment layer. This will automatically add a new adjustment. You'll find several presets here that are designed to maximize certain areas, and give you a particular black and white conversion. You can also click the Auto button so it analyzes the content. My favorite technique is to choose the On Image tool. Now I can click in an area, and the corresponding slider is going to be modified. For example, tweaking the cyan here is affecting that sky, and I can come into this darker area and click, and you still see that the cyan is really controlling that.…
