How do I fix a flat sky?
- A lot of times when shooting an image, particularly outdoors, you're faced with a conundrum. Exposed for details in the subject or exposed for the sky. Fortunately, it's gotten a lot easier to fix the sky after the fact by making a gradual adjustment. Let me show ya. Let's open up a Raw file here and you see we have a pretty good overall base exposure. The landscape isn't lost but the sky is really flat and boring. Let's make a few adjustments here. We'll recover the highlights a bit and that really helps bring back some of the details in the sky and let's lift the shadows on the foreground. That's not bad but it's not exactly what I want. Fortunately you have the graduated filter here and this allows you to click at the top and drag down to add a filter to the scene. Now, this currently is making an adjustment brightening the image. Let's turn this on for a moment and set it to red so you can better judge it.…
