Identifying planes

One of the first things you'll want to do when you look at a photograph is quickly identify the number of planes. Think of this as the major levels of depth within the photograph. In this first example, I see three. We have our statue here in the foreground. Then, slightly behind it is a pillar. Technically, this other pillar is in front if we wanted to be more accurate. So, if I decide to animate this, I may want to put this pillar in the foreground, followed by the statue, followed by the rear pillar. Then, much further back, we have these trees. Now for simplicity in animation, I'm going to end up ignoring this pillar. So we'll really just treat this as three planes: A foreground statue, a pillar behind them, and a forest. If we look at another example here, I've already cut it up into layers. And you'll notice that these are clearly labeled. We have our brick texture, then we have the couple that we've extracted…
