Improving contrast with Auto Curves
- In our previous example, we used curves to improve color contrast per channel and to remove color cast. But the more traditional use of a curve adjustment is to improve the dynamic range or contrast. Still, Photoshop gives you a few important options. Let's come here to the adjustments panel and click on curves. If we click on auto, it analyzes and attempts to fix. Photoshop has calculated a classic S curve. In this case, the shadows were darkened slightly and the midtones were gently lifted. If we toggle that on and off, you see slightly brighter highlights and richer shadows, and that's quite effective. But it's not our only choice. Hold down the option or alt key and click on the word auto. You'll notice that this is the traditional brightness and contrast adjustment. If we want, there are other choices, such as a monochromatic contrast. In this case, it's more gentle. We still have improved contrast, but…
