Inverting a selection
- One of the things that it can be very helpful to keep in mind when creating selections is that in some cases, many cases, it's easier to create the opposite of the selection that you actually want. You can then always invert your selection. Let's take a look at a simple example just to reinforce this concept. If I wanted to select the background, maybe I want to create a version of this image where the background is black and white and only this bit of clover is in color. I could certainly create a selection of that background, but it would be much faster and easier, in this case, to create a selection of the clover, the area that I don't want to select, and then invert that selection so now everything except the clover is selected. So, in this case, I think the quick selection tool will work well with our clover. I'll reduce that brush size just a little bit with the left square bracket key. Then I can paint within that leaf and the second leaf and then the third leaf. That gives…
