Key and fill lighting

- [Deke] In this movie, we'll talk about the standard way to light an underwater macro scene. And that's key and fill lighting, an example of which we're seeing right here. And that allows us to revive the color of the scene, as well as create shadows. And it's ultimately a matter of how you position your lights. Now, because we're talking about still photography throughout this course, we're going to be focusing our attention on strobes. Although you can extrapolate this information to continuous LED lights, as well. So naturally you want to position your strobes relative to the subject of your scene. However, because the strobes are physically attached to the camera housing, the position of the strobes, which of course move together, changes as you move. Therefore, we're going to talk about how you position your strobes, relative to the camera. And we're going to start off with this frog fish, right here. Currently, he's lit by ambient light, which is why he looks a bluish green…
