Layer masks
- [Instructor] When we talk about nondestructive ways of working in Photoshop we've got to talk about layer masks. Layer masks are essentially a way of removing or erasing something from your document but not permanently, not destructively. We can always bring it back later if we change our mind. And that's why this is so much better than erasing. To add a layer mask to an image all you need to do is click on this little camera looking icon at the bottom of the layers panel and it adds this little white box here which is a layer mask. If we click on the box to activate it, we can grab a paintbrush with black paint and paint on our screen but with the box activated and it essentially erases. And you can see the black I painted here in the layer mask. But if I decide that I made a mistake and I didn't want to erase that I can switch to white paint and paint again on the layer mask or in the layer mask and it restores everything I just painted out.
