Lightroom Classic and Lightroom CC tips

- [Chris] Welcome to another Photo Tools Weekly quick tip. In this episode, I want to share a few thoughts about the most recent release of Lightroom. There are now two different versions of Lightroom and in order to talk about which version you should use, I want to go back for a moment. I want to talk about the digital photographic workflow evolution. All of this started in Photoshop where we had film and digital capture and Bridge was introduced so we could deal with all of our files and bring them over to Photoshop, but things quickly evolved to the point where we worked with Photoshop, Bridge, and then Adobe Camera Raw. This was mostly a digital workflow and this evolved, as you know, where we use Photoshop, Bridge, a little bit of Camera Raw, and a lot of Lightroom. And Lightroom has been a cornerstone application that many of us have been using day in and day out. And now, all of a sudden, we have this new release where we have two versions of Lightroom, two different desktop apps. And I've been asked the question, "Well, Chris, which one should I use?" And I want to answer that question by way of an analogy. I want to compare workflow say to building something. Let's say that you want to build a tree house and you say, "Chris, where should I put my tree house?" Well, I would say build it in a tree that is big and established. That's Lightroom Classic. On the other hand, Lightroom CC is more of a sapling. It's more cloud-based. Eventually, that sapling's going to grow. Is it going to be bigger than Classic? My guess is yes, but it isn't there yet. So, in regards to my own photographic workflow, I'm sticking with Lightroom Classic. I'll keep an eye on Lightroom CC. I'll experiment with it, test things out. As it grows and gets bigger, I'll migrate or move more towards that way, but for now, I'm with Lightroom Classic. All right, well, I hope that this little tip helps you to figure out and navigate your own decision when you look at which tool to use or which version of Lightroom you should work with. All right, well, as always, thanks so much for joining me in this week's episode of Photo Tools Weekly. Have a wonderful week and I'll see you next time.
