Longer vs. shorter focal length

- [Deke] Alright in this movie we're going to get a little bit technical because we're going to be talking about the difference between a longer and a shorter focal length. Specifically, we'll be talking about the difference between two very common types of macro lenses, and that is an 105 millimeter lens, which would be a relatively long lens, versus a 60 millimeter lens, which is comparatively short. So tell us what's going on with this diagram, Hergen. - [Hergen] So the first thing is, on the left is going to be our 105 millimeter macro lens, our longer lens, and on the right is going to be our 60 millimeter lens, which we're calling the comparatively shorter lens. The primary difference between these two lenses that we have is the 105 on the left has a comparatively narrow field of view compared to the 60 millimeter on the right. - [Deke] And we should say that, I think fairly obviously, that this diagram is not to scale but it gives you a sense for what's going on.
