Masking an image

- [Instructor] What happens when you want to place an image that is not high key on a background. Earlier in this course I explained a formula for placing a white, or high key, image on a background and how well that worked for white and high key images. It often is not going to work, however, if you have a dark image and possibly a dark background. It's interesting to keep this formula in mind, however, as a starting place for some experimenting. When the background and the image are both dark, the normal blending mode is not gonna work because the image is simply gonna look plopped carelessly in place on top of the background rather than integrated as part of it. Some of the different blending modes that you should try instead of the normal blending mode are multiply, screen, soft light, and overlay. Other ideas to keep in mind are that you can work with more than one layer. The blending mode list in the layers panel is your friend and that the opacity slider can also be a source of…
