Merging and flattening layers

- As your documents begin to contain more and more layers, sometimes those file sizes will grow to be quite large. So people are always looking for a way to reduce the file size. But unfortunately, many of the different ways that Photoshop has to merge or combine layers also removes some of the flexibility. But we're going to take a look at these different options so that you can decide for yourself. If I use the status bar in the lower left, we can change this to document sizes. And the first size, the 12 megs, shows us the flattened size, and the second size is the layered document. So we can see that there's quite a big difference between 12 and 70 megs. So if we wanted to get the file size down, the first thing we might want to try doing is cropping the image because I remember that we had this grapes layer here, and that grapes layer extends above the visible document area.
