Mixing and matching tools
- One of the little traps that I find a lot of photographers fall into when creating selections, is that once they start trying to create a selection with a single tool, they continue using that tool, only that tool, to try to fine tune the selection to perfection. I think it's important to keep in mind that you can mix and match all of the various selection tools to help improve the overall quality of your selections. So if you start with one tool because you think it will do a good job and it does reasonably good job but you need to clean things up a bit try switching to a different selection tool. Let's take a look at just one example to illustrate the concept. If I wanted to select the sky here, I certainly know that the quick selection tool will do a pretty good job and so I'll select that quick selection tool, click and drag across the sky and sure enough I have what appears to be a great selection. But if I zoom in, I'll find that things aren't quite as good as I was hoping…
