Modifying the canvas

- [Instructor] In this movie, we'll see how to modify the canvas by cropping it or expanding it, and we'll look at the difference between resizing and resampling. In our exercise file, we have this picture of a car and let's say that we need to make it the right size and resolution for printing as a four by six ad. So that would mean adding some space on the canvas for the text over the car. Now first, let's see what we have now by going to the Image Size dialog box, which you can open from the Image menu. So right now, the image is 2,400 pixels by 1,575, which means at a resolution at 300 pixels per inch, it will print out at eight inches wide by five and 1/4 inches tall. So this is bigger than what we need and that's inefficient. It'll make the file size larger than what it should be and it should negatively affect the output image quality. If your image has too high a resolution for your printing needs, it won't be as crisp as it could be, so we need to down sample this image, to…
