Open a Photoshop document in Illustrator
- [Instructor] Another way to get our Photoshop imagery into Illustrator is to open the Photoshop file directly in Illustrator. This generally isn't recommended and here's why. Here I am in Adobe Bridge, I can select this image, right-click open with, and choose to open it with Illustrator rather than the default of Photoshop. Now when I do this the image is embedded i.e. it is not linked and if we take a look at my swatches panel we can see that the swatches are empty. So I could of course add swatches and I could now proceed as if this were a regular illustrated document. But generally it's preferable to place the image rather than open it because by placing it you will create a link to the image and you will be able to perform round trip edits, i.e. you will be able to select the image and then edit it in Photoshop and have those edits updates in Illustrator.
