Opening raw images as Smart Objects

- [Instructor] If you're working with RAW files, instead of opening the image into Photoshop and then converting it into a smart object, you can choose to open the RAW file into Photoshop as a smart object which will enable you to access the RAW data if you make changes. So in Bridge, I'm going to double click on Iceland.DNG. This is a RAW file so it opens up in the camera RAW dialogue. Over in the edit stack I'll choose auto to create an auto correction of the image. And then instead of just clicking open which would open it as a pixel based document, I'll choose open as object. When you open a smart object a copy of that RAW file is going to be embedded into this Photoshop or TIF document and the original RAW file is going to remain untouched. Let's go ahead and double click the thumbnail for the smart object in the layers panel. That will bring up the camera dialogue and I can make another non-destructive change.…
