Organizing the file

- Also often it's not building the file that is actually the difficult part, it's thinking forward for when you might need to make changes to it or if somebody else does. And so there are several organizational schemes that can be used inside of Photoshop and we're just going to do a couple of really simple ones just here. For example, if I wanted to make it easy for someone to find all of the feature layers, then I could go ahead and find the feature layer, so I'm just going to click here on the first feature layer, then hold down shift and click on feature copy, now naming happens to be one of the things that you could do, in fact let's just do that. We have the time, let's call this one left feature just here because it's on the left, okay, and the one here. You're probably guessing, I bet that's going to be the right feature. Do you know what, it's your day. There we go, so we've got those two things together. But if while I was trying to get somebody to work on these beyond I've worked on them, searching for left feature and right feature is a little bit of a drag, because they've got to scroll through reading all of the layers. What instead if I said, do you know what, let's make this particular layer blue, for example, right? Then I can go ahead and come up to the top of the layer's panel here and click on this and choose color. And you can see there's a filter here straight away. Now, if I right-click on these, this is where I get to choose the color, so if I go ahead and choose blue here and now if I filter for blue, you can see that it highlights just those two layers. Let's turn the filters off just here by clicking on this switch and we'll go ahead and we'll make the product layers, I don't know, let's make those green, so if I select this one at the top here, hold down shift and select the last one, I won't worry about naming these, then I'll right click and I'll choose green for the product layers, I think, go, go, go, go, go, there we are and even go, now, if I go back to the filters, turn the filters on and filter for green, you can see how easy it is to find those things and there are various other things you can use here. So if I wanted to go for smart objects for example, colors aren't a part of that, it will show me all of the things that are smart objects and if I just go back to kind at the top, it will show me everything once more. So, do bear that in mind and ultimately, it means a lot less training for the person at the other end who may or may not be a designer and it'll make it easier for them to work. Happier days ahead.
