Perfecting mask edges with the Smudge tool

- In this movie, I'll show you how to get rid of these bright halos that surround the perimeter of the kitten. And we're going to do so using a frankly, ancient and underappreciated masking tool, which is the smudge tool, which will allow us in the end to achieve this effect here. But first I'm going to show you how to colorize the sky so it provides a more welcoming environment for our cat. And so I'll go ahead and switch over to the image so far and I'll double-click on the background in order to convert it to an independent layer, and I'll call this layer "clouds" and then click OK. Alright now I'll drop down to the FX icon at the bottom of the Layers panel, and I'll choose Gradient Overlay, which will allow us to paint the clouds with a gradient. Alright I'm going to start off by clicking this down-pointing arrowhead next to the gradient bar right there, and choosing this gradient right here which is called "Violet Orange". And that's going to serve as a great base gradient…
