- [Chris] Hello friends, this is Chris Orwig and welcome to another episode of Photo Tools Weekly. In this week's episode we're in Photoshop and here I want to share with you some masking tips. We'll start off with some basics and then we'll get a little bit more advanced. You can see that I have a layer document here with a few different layers. We'll start off by working on the background layer. I want to begin by talking about how we can create a mask. One way is to select one of our selection tools, like the elliptical marquee and click and drag that out. Then, go over to the layers panel and click on the add layer mask icon. Now if you know a little bit about masks, you know that the white area reveals, the black area conceals. So currently I can only see a portion of this image. Now if I want to change what's viewed, you can actually click on the little link icon, it looks like a little chain link there to unlink the mask from the image, from the pixels.
