- [Deke] In this movie, we're going to discuss the next element of your underwater hardware, which is the lens port. The port is that thing that goes on the front of the housing that not only protects the lens, but, ideally, it also provides specialized underwater optics. So it's the kind of lens in front of your lens. Tell us once again, Hergen, what do ports do? - [Hergen] Well, as Deke mentioned, one of their primary functions is they provide a protective window for the lens to sort of look out from the housing. Hopefully, they'll correct, to varying degrees, optical issues caused by water. - [Deke] So, in other words, your less expensive ports are going to provide less optical compensation, and your more expensive ports are going to provide more optical compensation. - [Hergen] Some of these ports also include elements that will modify the optics of the camera's lens, so either increasing or decreasing its field of view.
