- [Instructor] All right, so here I am inside Illustrator looking at a piece of artwork that contains three trees, all of which are custom shapes that ship along with Photoshop. In fact, the one in the center is a simplified version of that U tree. What I want to do is create my own custom shape in the form of this elaborate compound path by automatically tracing a photographic image here inside Illustrator and so I'm going to start things up by showing you how to prepare such an image in Photoshop and so I'll go ahead and switch over to that program at which point we are seeing the tree that we will be tracing and notice up here in a title tab that we're seeing the word gray in parentheses and that tells us that we have a single channel image with no color whatsoever known in the world of photography as black and white.
