- [Narrator] Another great thing about smart objects is they allow you to protect type. So, in other words you can distort the type or filter it, all without having to first convert the type to pixels, as was the case in the old days. And so for example, we're going to take this live editable type and we're going to convert it to this ice type effect, using a smart object along with a couple of filters. And so the first thing you want to do is select the ice type layer here inside the layers panel and then shift click on the snowflakes layer to select it as well and then armed with the rectangular marquee tool, go ahead and right click anywhere inside the image window and choose convert to smart object. And yes, a smart object can contain as many layers as you like. At which point Photoshop takes the text layer and the snowflakes and places it inside of a single smart object. Which means you can go up to the edit menu and choose the free transform command or press control t or command…
