- [Instructor] Here's another example of the interplay between Photoshop and Illustrator to really get the best from Image Trace when vectorizing images. I'm going to start here, in Photoshop, with this rather flat image that was taken at a somewhat disappointing sunset. So I need to prepare this image in a way that's going to give me the best trace possible. But, first of all, let's just place it into Illustrator. I have, as my starting point, a tabloid-sized document with a three millimeter or 1/8 of an inch bleed. From the File menu, I'll choose Place, and then place my image. I'll then come to my Image Trace, then to the Image Trace panel, change the mode from black and white to color, and we see that if we do nothing to prepare the image in Photoshop beforehand, this is the result that we will get. Well I'm now going to switch back to Photoshop and convert my background layer to a smart object. Then, come to the Filter menu, choose Stylize, Oil Paint. I like to use the oil paint…
