- Some users find curves a bit intimidating, preferring the simpler interface of levels, which offers three control points. However, the auto-adjustment is available for each, giving you that same quick start to getting great results. In this image, let's apply an adjustment layer for levels. You'll see, looking at the histogram, that this image really lacks highlights. Rather though than you having to drag and guess and trying to figure out where to position these, you can instead click Auto, which will automatically make that mapping for you, which is quite powerful. If you get this exclamation point on the histogram, just click and it will redraw more accurately. Now what you can do though is hold down the Option key and click on the word Auto to bring up the dialog. Notice here that we have the same option for snapping neutral mid-tones.
