Removing the color from a layer

- [Instructor] In this movie, I'm going to share with you a trick that has nothing to do with transformations, per se, but everything to do with our composition and progress. And so what we're going to do is remove the color from this grassy border in order to create this effect right here. And notice that every single blade of grass has no color associated with it whatsoever. And so we're going to take a look at a couple of ways to pull this off, one of which is very easy and destructive, and the other of which requires a little more work and is entirely non-destructive. And that way you can choose your poison. All right, so I'll go ahead and switch over to this grassy border file which is called foliage.jpeg, and then I'll right-click inside the image window with the Rectangular Marquee tool and I'll choose the Duplicate Layer command, and then I'll set the Destination Document to my work in progress which is called Dangerously spiky corners.psd and I'll click OK.
