Saving a graphic as an 8-bit GIF or PNG

- [Man] In this movie, I'll show you how to take a low color, highly graphical image like this one and further reduce the file size by limiting the number of colors inside the image. So specifically, we're going to take the colors down to eight bits and what that means is that we have a bit of data, which can represent one of two numbers: zero or one and we take it to the eighth power and that gives us a maximum or 256 colors compared to the usual 16.8 million. Alright, I'll go ahead and hide those layers again and you should always bare in mind that save for web is always saving the composite view of the image, that is only those layers that you are seeing at any given point in time. Alright, now return to the file menu, choose export and then choose save for web in order to bring up the big save for web window, and the two formats that are available for us when saving 8-bit images are gif and png-8.
