Select curly hair
- [Instructor] Let's say you want to replace a plain background like this one with a more interesting textured background like this one. To do that, you have to select the model's hair, which can be a challenge with curly hair. Here's how it's done. Make sure the hair layer is selected, choose Select and Subject to create the initial selection automatically. To refine that selection, go to the Select menu and choose Select and Mask. In the Select and Mask workspace that opens, go to the View menu and choose Overlay, which shows you the non-selected areas as a red mask. To try to refine the selection automatically, go to the Refine Mode section, open that, and click Object Aware. This tells Photoshop what method to use to find and refine the edges of the hair in the next steps. Then select the second tool from the top in the toolbar, the Refine Edge Brush tool, and in the Options bar, click Refine Hair. That cleaned up…
