Selecting before you refine
- [Instructor] All right, now, one of the things to know about the Select and Mask workspace is you don't have to select inside of it. You can select the image any way you want before choosing the Select and Mask command. And that's generally the better way to work because, that way, you have more selection options. And so, for example, in the case of this image, I might take a very different approach because there's so little contrast between the sleeves and the background and the Select and Mask command is gonna automatically refine that hair. So, here's what I'd do, again, where this specific image is concerned. First, I press the Backspace key, or the Delete key on the Mac, to get rid of that Dreamstime URL layer. And then, I would definitely go up to the Select menu and choose the Subject command, just to give it a chance, because there is an obvious subject in this image. Problem is Photoshop doesn't do a very good job of selecting it. It does actually fare pretty well under…
