Selecting by focus

- One of the newest features of Photoshop when it comes to creating selections is the ability to create a selection based on areas of focus. In other words, select the ares that are in focus and don't select the areas that are out of focus. It's rather impressive when you've isolated a subject by focus, for example, this can be a great way to create a selection of that particular subject. Here, for example, I have a flower that is in focus and the background is out of focus, so this should be a good test platform for the selection by focus capability of Photoshop. I'll get started by making sure that the image layer is active on the Layers panel and then going to the Select menu and choosing Focus Area. That will bring up a dialog where we're able to define our settings in order to create a selection based on focus. I'll go ahead and switch the preview to the Marching Ants display for example and you can see my selection outline that more or less defines the flower that is in focus in…
